Freddy Fender was a country and Tejano musician who used both English and Spanish in his songs and was greatly influenced by the sounds of his upbringing in southern Texas. If you could write a song about an important place or memory in your life, what would you write about? Join Nashville musician Rachel Rodriguez and Museum educator Adam Ollendorff for this introductory workshop inspired by Fender’s career and the Tejano tradition. Participants will learn the fundamentals of songwriting—including form, theme, and rhyme scheme—then share ideas and write an original song in both English and Spanish as a group. Presented in support of the Museum’s Discover Freddy Fender project, part of a series exploring diverse voices in country music. Program made possible by a grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission. Recommended for ages 7 and up, but all are welcome. Taylor Swift Education Center. Limited seating. Included with Museum admission. Free to Museum members.
