Community Pop-up: Harmonica Performance and Beginner Harmonica Workshop with Carlos DeFord Bailey and Jake Groves
Have you ever wanted to learn to play the harmonica? Now’s your chance! Join us for a group harmonica lesson in honor of DeFord Bailey, one of early country music’s most popular performers and the genre’s first Black star. Although Bailey was a talented musician who played numerous instruments, he was best known as an expert harmonica player, earning the nickname “Harmonica Wizard” and becoming one of the most famous harmonica players in the United States during the 1930s. Enjoy Bailey’s story and music during a demonstration led by Carlos DeFord Bailey, DeFord Bailey’s grandson and a harmonica player in his own right, and Jake Groves, a harmonica player who tours and records with Colter Wall and hosts WXOX Louisville’s Faint of Harp Radio Hour. After their performance, participants will get their chance to play, with instruction and guidance from the pros. Youth participants will receive free Hohner harmonicas while supplies last. Come make music with us! All ages. Presented in partnership with Hohner and Make Music Nashville. Takes place at Plaza Mariachi, 3955 Nolensville Pike, Nashville, TN, 37211. Free.
