Luke Combs keeps a close circle of songwriting collaborators, many of whom were unproven talents when they first crossed paths in Nashville. During this program, Combs will be joined by four of those songwriters—Ray Fulcher, James McNair, Drew Parker, and Rob Williford—to share the stories behind and perform some of the songs they have written together. Ray Fulcher has written more than two dozen of Combs’s songs, including six country radio #1s: “Does to Me” featuring Eric Church, “Even Though I’m Leaving,” “Going, Going, Gone,” “Love You Anyway,” “Lovin’ on You,” and “When It Rains It Pours.” Originally from Harlem, Georgia, Fulcher released his first album with Black River Entertainment, Spray Painted Line, in 2022. He has also written songs recorded by Tenille Arts, Elvie Shane, Zac Brown Band, and others. James McNair wrote Combs’s hits “Going, Going, Gone” and “Lovin’ on You,” as well as eight additional album cuts. With Emily Weisband, he and Combs also wrote “Dance Like No One’s Watching,” which Gabby Barrett recorded for her latest album, Chapter & Verse. In addition to Combs, McNair has written songs recorded by Kane Brown, Florida Georgia Line, Scotty McCreery, and others. Drew Parker wrote two of Combs’s #1 songs—“Doin’ This” and “Forever After All”—as well as “1, 2 Many” featuring Brooks & Dunn and two other album cuts. The Stewart, Georgia, native released his first EP with Warner Music Nashville, At the End of the Dirt Road, in 2023 and released a new single, “The Truck,” in April. He is one of Combs’s opening acts for his Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour this summer. Rob Williford is among Combs’s earliest collaborators and has written the chart-toppers “Beautiful Crazy”—also a Country Music Association Song of the Year—“Doin’ This,” “Forever After All,” and “One Number Away,” as well as six other album cuts. From 2014 through 2023, he played guitar in Combs’s band. Williford, originally from North Carolina like Combs, released his first album, Wildcard, in 2023. Offered in support of the exhibition Luke Combs: The Man I Am. CMA Theater. Included with Museum admission. Program ticket required. Free to Museum members.
