Performance: Lomax on Lomax
John Lomax III is a third-generation country and folk music preservationist. His grandfather, John Avery Lomax, is noted for recording and archiving legendary folk songs such as “Home on the Range,” “The Buffalo Skinners,” and “Git Along Little Dogies,” featured in his anthology Cowboy Songs and Other Frontier Ballads, first published in 1910. Lomax III performs some of these songs and shares stories about and photos of his grandfather, father John Lomax Jr., and uncle Alan Lomax’s song-collecting expeditions. He is the author of three books and hundreds of articles, and he also managed the Cactus Brothers, Steve Earle, dulcimer player David Schnaufer, and Townes Van Zandt. Ford Theater.
