Family Program: Explore West African String Instruments
Family Program: Explore West African String Instruments (drop-in)
Did you know the banjo was developed in the Caribbean? Enslaved people created the instrument based on their memories of West African lutes. Guided by performance troupe AfricaNashville leaders Sekouna Conte and Ibrahima Dioubate—multi-instrumentalists and performers of West African music originally from Guinea—try your hand at and explore two West African lutes, the kora and the n’goni. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned musician, you’re sure to learn something new. All ages. Taylor Swift Education Center. Included with Museum admission. Free to Museum members.
