Born and raised in Milwaukee, Eric Benét grew up surrounded by musical siblings who loved to sing and harmonize together. In college, he formed a group called Benét with his sister and cousin, and in 1991 they scored their first record deal with EMI.
The group’s record failed to generate a hit and the label dropped them, but Eric was in it for the long haul. His solo album, True to Myself, was released by Warner Bros. Records in 1996. His life changed dramatically after 1999’s A Day in the Life, which included his first #1 single, “Spend My Life with You” featuring Tamia. He started touring internationally, finding tremendous joy in hearing his music and lyrics sung by fans all over the world.
Benét joined forces with producer David Foster, and together they made the Hurricane album (2005), which received great acclaim. He both developed and acted in the TV series “Snap” on the ALLBLK streaming network and has had roles on “New York Undercover,” “For Your Love,” and “Real Husbands of Hollywood,” among others.
After experiencing frustrations early in his career, Benét was inspired to start his own company to allow artists to express their creativity while being treated with fairness and respect. He joined forces with his longtime friend and experienced music executive Alison Ball to create JBR Creative Group. The company released Benét’s EP Duets and its 2025 follow-up The Co-Star, both of which featured collaborations with top R&B recording artists.
