From Where I Stand: The Black Experience in Country Music
From Where I Stand: The Black Experience in Country Music Overview
In 1998, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum released From Where I Stand: The Black Experience in Country Music, a CD box set documenting the many ways Black Americans have created, contributed to, and been influenced by country music.
26 years later, From Where I Stand has returned as a multifaceted initiative, encompassing an expanded box set, an online experience, and an all-star concert celebration.
- The 2024 edition of From Where I Stand: The Black Experience in Country Music adds a fourth disc to the box set, presenting a fresh wave of artists who emerged through 2020. Curated by the Museum and created in collaboration with Warner Music Nashville, it will be released on May 31, and is now available for pre-order.
- From Where I Stand: The Online Experience is a free educational resource containing all of the set’s music, essays, photographs, and historical track notes, as well as supplemental content from the Museum’s archive and resources for educators. It will be made available to the public on May 31.
- From Where I Stand: The Concert Celebration presented by Amazon and Riverview Foundation will bring together many artists featured on the box set for an all-star concert at the Museum’s CMA Theater on June 18. Free tickets will be available May 31. The concert will be filmed and released on the Museum’s website this fall.
