Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Wayland Holyfield wrote hits including Billy Dean’s “Only Here for a Little While,” Anne Murray’s “Could I Have This Dance,” Johnny Russell’s “Rednecks, White Socks, and Blue Ribbon Beer,” and Don Williams’s “Some Broken Hearts Never Mend,” “Til the Rivers All Run Dry,” and “You’re My Best Friend.” His songs were also recorded by Crystal Gayle, Mickey Gilley, Ronnie Milsap, Charley Pride, T. G. Sheppard, George Strait, and more. Holyfield was preparing to speak and perform at the Museum earlier this year as part of the Museum’s Poets and Prophets series when he died on May 6 at the age of eighty-two. During this in-the-round tribute, fellow Nashville Songwriter Hall of Fame members Pat Alger, Mike Reid, and Thom Schuyler will perform some of Holyfield’s hits. Ford Theater. Included with Museum admission. Program ticket required. Free to Museum members.
