Apr 27, 202107:00 PM - 07:45 PM
Justly lauded as one of the finest vocalists in country music, Lee Ann Womack performed and talked about her career at a 2017 Songwriter Session presented in partnership with the Americana Music Association. A Grammy winner and CMA Female Vocalist of the Year, Womack has amassed a recorded catalog that is deep, rich, and rooted in the classic sounds at the heart of country and Americana music. She has joined voices with a diverse list of performers, from Dr. John to Dr. Ralph Stanley. Womack’s most recent album, The Lonely, the Lonesome, and the Gone (2017), showcased her songwriting and was recorded at Houston’s legendary SugarHill Recording Studios, where Lightnin’ Hopkins, George Jones, the 13th Floor Elevators, and many others cut classic recordings.
Peter Cooper spoke with Womack about her songwriting, her East Texas roots, and her musical journey.
