Making its world premiere, the documentary Center of Nowhere: The Spirit and Sounds of Springfield, Mo. details the important, little-known musical history of Springfield, Missouri. The film covers the fascinating story of 1950s radio and network TV program Ozark Jubilee, and reviews the city’s role in the careers of Wayne Carson, Red Foley, Brenda Lee, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Ronnie Self, the Skeletons, and Porter Wagoner. In addition to Lee, the film features appearances by Dave Alvin, Eric Ambel, Robbie Fulks, Merle Haggard, Scott Kempner, Dan Penn, Vance Powell, Jonathan Richman, Scott Siman, and Lou Whitney. 90 minutes. Ford Theater. Included with museum admission. Free to museum members.
