Family Program: New Year’s Eve Lucky Black-Eyed Pea Maracas

Dec 28, 2019

1:00 PM–1:30 PM

In the South, eating black-eyed peas or “Hoppin’ John” on New Year’s Day is said to bring good luck for the coming year. Let’s get hands-on and make our own maracas using dried black-eyed peas.  Families will explore this culinary tradition, percussion instruments in country music, and country songs about the holiday. Participants will go home with their handmade maracas to shake on New Year’s Eve. Ring in 2020 with musical fun and good luck. Ages four and up. Taylor Swift Education Center. Included with museum admission. Free to museum members. Limited seating.
