NASHVILLE, Tenn., November 16, 2006 - The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum's Ford Theater is the setting for a special songwriter session in honor of Ray Charles on Saturday, December 9, at 2:00 p.m. Cats Like Us will feature singer-songwriters Richard Leigh, Troy Seals, Micheal Smotherman and Tony Joe White performing songs they wrote that were recorded by Charles, including hits such as "3/4 Time," "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind," "It Ain't Gonna Worry My Mind," "Two Old Cats Like Us," the #1 smash "Seven Spanish Angels" and more. The four singer-songwriters will perform together on stage, swapping songs and discussing Charles' impact on their music and careers. This special program is presented in conjunction with the exhibition I Can't Stop Loving You: Ray Charles and Country Music, Sponsored by SunTrust, and is included with Museum admission (free to Museum members).
The Museum will also be featuring a sleighful of holiday programs, including a performance in the Museum Store by Hall of Fame members Bill Anderson and Porter Wagoner on Saturday, December 16, at 3:30 p.m. Anderson and Wagoner, along with fellow contributing artists Helen Cornelius, Lloyd Knight and Justin Ryan, will perform selections from their new album, Still Believing in Christmas. Prior to the performance, Jason Coleman, grandson of Hall of Famer Floyd Cramer and an established pianist and arranger, will sign autographs and play selections from his CDs Merry Little Christmas and Legacy at 2:00 p.m. in the Museum Store. (There is no charge to visit the Museum Store.) In addition, visitors who make a purchase in the store may take their receipt to the box office and receive buy-one, get-one-free adult general admission to the Museum; this offer is good through December 31.
Other holiday-themed events include a free art activity hosted by Hatch Show Print, Nashville’s historic letterpress print shop, where children ages six and older can design their own seasonal cards or T-shirts; this program begins at 1:00 p.m. on December 9 in the Museum’s SunTrust Community Room. Concerts featuring regional school and community groups, and film screenings of vintage Christmas specials culled from the Museum’s Frist Library and Archive, will take place throughout the month.

1:00 p.m. Family Program: Make Letterpress Art with Hatch Show Print.
Children use block images from Hatch Show Print, Nashville’s historic letterpress print shop, to make a holiday card or T-shirt. For ages six and up. No reservations required (FREE).

Ray Charles recorded about 100 country songs, among them some of the biggest hits of his career. This session will feature four singer-songwriters who penned material for Charles, including “3/4 Time,” “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind,” “It Ain’t Gonna Worry My Mind,” “Seven Spanish Angels,” “Two Old Cats Like Us” and more. In this songwriter session, the writers will perform together on stage, swapping songs and discussing Charles’ impact on their music and careers.

2:00 p.m. Film Screening: “Johnny Cash Christmas Show” (1977)
From 1969 to 1971, Johnny Cash starred in a nationally broadcast television show, featuring music from a variety of music legends - from Bob Dylan to Webb Pierce to Kris Kristofferson. After the show went off the air, Cash continued to make television appearances throughout the 1970s with an annual Christmas Special. This screening of “The Johnny Cash Christmas Show” was broadcast in December 1977. Taped at the Grand Ole Opry House in front of a live audience, the program includes guest appearances by the Carter Family, June Carter Cash, Roy Clark, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins and the Statler Brothers.
