As Buck Owens's backing band, the Buckaroos played a primary role in developing and popularizing the Bakersfield Sound. This panel will include drummer Willie Cantu, the only surviving member of the classic mid-1960s Buckaroos lineup. He will be joined by current Buckaroos Terry Christoffersen (steel guitar), Doyle Curtsinger (bass), and Jim Shaw (keyboards), all of whom backed the late singer for several decades and still perform regularly at Buck Owens' Crystal Palace in their hometown of Bakersfield. Singer Buddy Alan Owens, Buck's son who toured with the Buckaroos while charting hits in the late 1960s and '70s, and Randy Poe, co-author of Buck Owens's new autobiography, also will participate. California-based music historian Scott B. Bomar will moderate. Presented in support of the Museum's exhibit The Bakersfield Sound: Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, and California Country.
