MOVING IMAGE COLLECTION

Moving Image CollectionCountry Music Hall of Fame® and Museum Moving Image Collection contains over 23,000 moving images on over nine different formats, including 16mm film, digibeta, DVD, and early video. The dates of these materials range from the 1920s to the present and provide a vast and unique visual history of country music.

The content of the collection is incredibly varied, and includes television performance and variety shows, country music related feature films, and a strong collection of original home movies and amateur films. By focusing on both preservation and exhibition, the museum is able to rotate copies of many of the archive's holdings into the museum exhibitions, breathing new life into the artifacts for the education and entertainment of new generations.

The Moving Image Archive staff and storage facilities are dedicated to the safety and longevity of the moving images in its collection. The foundation of our museum exhibitions and clip licensing is our conservation and preservation of original collection materials. This preservation work has included partnerships with such groups as the GRAMMY Foundation and the National Film Preservation Foundation.

The archive actively collects moving images related to the development of country music and other vernacular music rooted in the American South. In particular, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum champions the importance of home movies and amateur films as unique insights into our country music heritage, and was host to the 2007 Nashville Home Movie Day. http://www.homemovieday.com/

Some of our most treasured collection items come from the cameras and collections of the fans of country music. If you have questions regarding the donation of moving images to the archive, emails may be directed to: footage@countrymusichalloffame.org.

Some items in the collection are available for viewing or use by scholars or filmmakers. Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum does not provide footage for collectors.

A VHS reference research screener is available for a pull fee of $50.00 per clip, payable in advance of shipping (credit cards accepted). The screener will be NTSC format and have a time-code window burned in. Code may or may not be referenced to the master source, as some sources may not have code written.

When clips are requested that are not the property of the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum, VHS research screeners can be provided (see fees above). The country music Hall of Fame can help in determining the rights holder, but responsibility lies with the requesting entity. Written permission from the appropriate rights holders, in addition to permission from the country music Hall of Fame must be received before broadcast quality dubs of non-country music Hall of Fame and Museum materials can be provided.

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum represents and licenses a significant amount of clips. CMHOF clip license fees are set when the terms of use are declared. A clip license research form is sent and must be returned before fees are determined. An executed license agreement must be in-hand, with the license fee payments, along with any hard costs due, before broadcast clips are sent out.

Some sources cannot be screened due to format. Client must pay for a transfer (CMHOF choice of format) for a reference/broadcast dub if desired. At the present time, Beta SP is the only broadcast quality format available. Any transfer fees incurred by client will be deducted from the license fee.
