After Jeannie C. Riley took his hypocrisy-busting “Harper Valley P.T.A” to the top of the charts in 1968, Tom T. Hall found his talents in demand. Nicknamed “The Storyteller,” Hall drew on his love of literature and his rural roots to craft detailed narratives such as “The Year That Clayton Delaney Died,” a tribute to his childhood hero, which became a smash hit in 1971.
