The country music industry had grown stagnant when Randy Travis’s Storms of Life hit record stores in 1986. Driven by hard-country numbers like the #1 hit single “On the Other Hand,” it sold three million copies and helped re-ignite radio’s interest in the classic country sound of steel guitars and fiddles. It also made a superstar out of Travis, a former juvenile delinquent who matured into a clean-living role model for other young country singers.
