The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum offers unpaid internships that advance the educational goals of the student as well as the Museum’s mission.
Internships are designed for a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks with consideration given to individual university requirements. Educational programs which operate on a quarterly basis will be accommodated.
Motivated students who are seeking hands-on experiences in a team-oriented environment will find excellent opportunities at the museum. Internships are available which provide learning opportunities in archival preservation, research, event management, communication and marketing, development, and educational programming.
The following internship positions are offered each semester. Applications are accepted at any time, and internships are open until filled.

This internship is designed for a junior, senior, or graduate level student seeking a quality professional experience in the diverse field of marketing. The internship offers a creative, energetic environment in which a student is exposed to the areas of advertising development, promotions, media relations/purchasing, and other forms of marketing.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting at on-site and off-site museum events
- Supporting the Hall of Fame Street Team
- Researching current marketing, public relations, and digital trends
- Writing and editing copy
- Assembling giveaway packages
- Updating online calendars with upcoming program information
- Brainstorming potential marketing partnerships with other organizations
- Developing and executing sweepstakes and promotions
- Writing and implementing surveys
- Executing data capture and data entry
- Organizing digital images for marketing purposes
- Fulfilling regional radio trade agreements
- Developing and executing marketing plans
The intern should be able to work independently and should possess good organizational, computer, and written and oral communications skills. Experience with Microsoft Office and social media is required.
The Digital Marketing intern will learn the fundamentals of social networking, ecommerce, email marketing, and analytic tracking. He/she will work within the Museum’s Marketing department to help facilitate the goals related to effectively marketing the brand, products/services, and events at the Museum.
•General assistance to members of the Digital and Marketing departments
•Assist in creating social media plans/schedules and running campaigns
•Track analytics and create reports for weekly review
•Web content management and updating as needed
•Participation in marketing department meetings
•Execution and fulfillment of digital marketing promotions with various community/industry partners
•Interact with Museum patrons for data capture
The candidate should be able to work independently and possess strong organizational, computer, written, and oral communications skills. Basic HTML, social media, and web design knowledge are a plus but not necessary.
The ideal candidate for this internship is a graphic design student seeking further experience with an in-house design department.
- General assistance to members of the Creative and Marketing departments
- Typesetting copy for a range of projects including monthly postcards, signage, and ads
- Layout weekly ads, fliers, and signage
- Photoshop and image work for print and web
- Some web design may be needed
- Assist in preparing files for print
- Take part in Creative Department conceptual meetings
- Participation in weekly Marketing Department meeting
Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator are a must. The intern should be able to work independently and possess strong organizational, computer, written, and oral communications skills.
The intern assists the Public Programs Manager in the planning and execution of educational programs for museum visitors. The museum offers nearly 200 public programs per calendar year, ranging from live interviews and concerts to film screenings and family activities.
Intern responsibilities include
- researching exhibit themes for corresponding programs
- brainstorming program ideas
- maintaining programming binders and digital records
- processing mail correspondence to artists
- conducting research for programs and other education department projects
- participating in department meetings
- assisting with “day-of-show” program management
- writing support materials for programs
- other duties as needed.
Administrative and clerical duties are part of this position but there are also projects that require creative thinking. The ideal candidate should have an interest in education, music, and event planning/booking. Knowledge of country music is helpful. Saturday and/or Sunday availability is a must.
The duties of this internship include assisting the School Programs Coordinator in daily activities and educational program development.
Daily responsibilities include
- conducting student tours
- communicating with teachers
- assisting with school program material preparation and administrative tasks.
Program development responsibilities include
- assisting in the coordination of teacher advisory groups
- creating teacher’s guides for classroom use.
The benefits of this internship are gaining direct experience with developing and implementing educational programs for students and teachers in the areas of music, music history and social studies. Candidates should enjoy working with children, and have a strong interest in education, music history, and educational program development.
The development intern assists the Development Department in the following ways:
- provides support for the management and execution of internal museum events
- grants research, writing and preparation
- prospect research, evaluation and cultivation
- special projects including donor stewardship and VIP tours
- daily development office activities including database support and filing
Candidates with experience/interest in public relations, communications, marketing, event management are preferred. Applicants should have excellent written and verbal communication skills. PowerPoint and Excel expertise are encouraged, but not required.
The intern will be directly involved in activities including but not limited to the following:
- cataloging print materials
- scanning projects
- digitization projects
- periodicals projects
- assisting with building or weeding collection
The ideal candidate should have library experience or be enrolled in an MLS program and have excellent computer skills and experience or coursework in LC cataloging. The intern will gain experience in cataloging and other library-related duties.
The Events Department Intern will have the following duties:
- assisting with servicing of events before, during and after Museum hours
- attending weekly Events Department meetings to learn the skills needed to communicate the execution of events to other departments in the building.
- shadowing sales manager and service manager during client site visits to learn skills used in selling our space and services.
- assisting in compiling weekly event reports
- assisting with administrative and clerical duties for Events Department.
The ideal candidate is an outgoing, motivated individual who is always looking to learn and take the initiative in completing tasks; a service-oriented person with a willingness to help others.
Knowledge of Excel, Word and Microsoft Outlook is preferred. Some hours will be before or after regular 9:00am – 5:00pm Museum hours.
The Bob Pinson Recorded Sound collection at the CMHOF consists of a variety of audio formats. There are many general and special projects available for interns and the internships can be geared toward the intern's knowledge, skills, and interests. Interns have the opportunity to do hands-on work and gain valuable experience in the archive / library science field.
Projects include (but are not limited to)
- basic audiotape/sound recording inspection, handling and playback
- basic accessioning of materials
- playback of un-cataloged sound recordings to document content and condition
- transfer and dubbing of audio formats
- assist in the preservation transfer of items
- cataloging of audio materials
Applicants should have an interest in country music and the history of sound recordings, both recording and playback. Previous work and knowledge of sound formats, and/or in cataloging and library science is preferred.
The internship is designed for graduate or undergraduate students in tourism/hospitality industry or organizational management programs. The intern will assist the Guest Relations manager in all functions relating to the daily operations of front line staff. Hours of internship should be Mon-Fri between 9am-5pm. A minimum of 20 hours per week is preferred.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Staff scheduling for daily operations and special events
- Developing daily/monthly reports on attendance, revenue, tickets, promotions, etc.
- Organizational and research projects
- Work front line positions as needed, interacting directly with guests for special events, emergencies, etc.
- Communicate with guests via phone/email for questions
- Assist the Sales department with contacting potential clients and leads
- Assist reservations manager with Museum member RSVP’s for public programs, online ticket orders and special events as needed
- Additional projects as time permits and ideas arise.
Candidates should have strong verbal/written communication and organizational skills. An open, friendly attitude and pro-active work ethic are essential. Candidate should be PC proficient and possess basic Word and Excel skills. Should work well and make decisions under fast-paced environment and always provide strong customer service. Knowledge of the Nashville area and its music history is a plus. The ideal candidate will have in interest in the tourism or hospitality industry.
The moving image collection at CMHFM consists of over 24,000 film, video, and digital assets. Internship and volunteer opportunities in the archive are flexible and depend on the knowledge level, skill level, interests, and time commitment of the volunteer or intern. Interns and volunteers have the opportunity to work hands-on with the collection; work closely with staff, and gain and valuable experience in the archive and library science field.
Basic projects include (but are not limited to):
- Basic film inspection and handling
- Assessment, re-housing, and skeletal cataloging of collections
- Content logging of video collections
- Scanning and re-housing of archival paper materials
Volunteers and interns with advanced or specific skill sets may work with staff to create a proposal for a special project. Special projects usually consist of deeper research or cataloging of a specific sub-collection within the archive. Applicants must be familiar with basic PC or Mac operation, be able to work well independently, have strong organizational skills, and have strong attention to detail. An interest in country music is a plus. Experience with film and video playback equipment, scanners, or video editing software is also preferred.
The intern will be directly involved in activities including but not limited to the following:
- assisting in rehousing and cataloging photos
- scanning projects
- using Photoshop to edit digital images when necessary
The ideal candidate should have experience with digital photographs, using Adobe Photoshop and a working knowledge of scanning practices. An overall familiarity with Microsoft Office programs and other general computer skills is a must. Attention to detail and ability to handle fragile objects is needed. Students that have a familiarity with country music history are a plus.
This position will provide technical support to all of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s employees, including retail shops, box offices and administrative departments. The Help Desk Support intern will have the responsibility of assisting users on a wide variety of hardware/software related issues. A minimum of 20 hours per week is preferred.
Candidate will have an opportunity to learn and excel with Windows based systems in a comfortable, fast paced environment and will be required to:
- Respond to requests for technical support
- Identify, research, and resolve technical problems
- Support, monitor, test, and troubleshoot hardware and software issues
- Provide user-level software support, including but not limited to, MS Office 2007 (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, Exchange Outlook Web Access, and the museum’s various databases
- Research and document new technologies to support ongoing projects
- Will have a major role in writing and organizing documentation
- Any other duties as assigned
- Strong MS Office 2007, 2010 skills
- Have received training on Windows operating systems--Windows server 2003, XP, Windows 7.
- Posses a strong working knowledge of office printing and scanning technologies
- Working knowledge of PC hardware, Ethernet networking infrastructure & IP protocols desired
- Exposure to Active Directory, Windows 2008 r2 and VMware a plus
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Must be resourceful, freethinking, self-paced, and flexible
