Special Program: Concert: Guitar Man: A Tribute to Jerry Reed

Chet Atkins dubbed Jerry Reed a Certified Guitar Player and recorded over thirty of Reed’s instrumental compositions. An ace band made up of friends and colleagues pays tribute to the late guitarist and songwriter in celebration of what would have been Reed’s 75th birthday (March 20). Special guests include Thom Bresh, Craig Dobbins, John Knowles c.g.p., Brent Mason, Richard Smith, Mark Thornton, Darrell Toney, and Sean Weaver. The house band will include Steve Bryant (bass), Ric McClure (drums), and Matt Raum (acoustic guitar and mandolin). Included with Museum admission. Free to Museum members. Vouchers required for admittance, and seating is limited! Vouchers available at the Museum beginning two hours prior to show time on the day of the program. Family Program: Introduction to Thumbpick Guitar

Learn to play guitar like Chet Atkins and Merle Travis. This hands-on workshop will teach the basics of thumbpick guitar. This program will be led by versatile guitar player Sean Weaver, recipient of awards from Home of the Legends Thumbpickers Contest and the Jimi Hendrix Electric Guitar Competition. Guitars will be provided. Ages 6 to 18. No reservations required. Free. Families are encouraged to tour the museum at a discounted rate following the program. Fingerstyle Guitar Demonstration: Craig Dobbins

Alabama-based guitarist, writer, and composer Craig Dobbins has authored many books and recordings about fingerstyle guitar and has contributed to the magazines Acoustic Guitar, Acoustic Guitar Workshop, Fingerstyle Guitar, and Just Jazz Guitar. Dobbins also writes a regular column for Mister Guitar (the journal of the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society). Included with Museum admission. Free to Museum members. Community Outreach: Introduction to Thumbpick Guitar at Nashville Public Library, Goodlettsville Branch

Family Program

Chet Atkins is one of the most admired musicians of the 20th Century. His intricate fingerstyle guitar playing continues to influence country, rock, and jazz guitarists such as Tommy Emmanuel and Mark Knopfler. This hands-on workshop will teach the basics of thumbpick guitar. Led by versatile guitar player Sean Weaver, graduate of Belmont University and recipient of awards from Home of the Legends Thumbpickers Contest as well as the Jimi Hendrix Electric Guitar Competition.
