ELVIS AND HATCH SHOW PRINT: Hatch Show Print produced what is believed to be the first promotional poster for Elvis Presley, in 1956. Presley's manager, Colonel Tom Parker, had been a loyal customer of the shop, using the company's services for previous management clients Eddy Arnold and Hank Snow. Hatch printed one hundred copies of the first Elvis poster-now an iconic image of the emerging rock sensation-for a cost of $16. In the summer of 1956, Life magazine ran a photo of a Florida minister holding the Elvis poster while preaching to his congregation about the evils of rock & roll. The Hatch archives contain several account billings and receipts sent to or signed by Colonel Parker. |
