Performance: Preview of Tennessee Repertory Theatre’s Pump Boys and Dinettes

Tennessee Repertory Theatre offers a sneak peek of the Tony-nominated musical Pump Boys and Dinettes. Drive a ways outta town, and you'll come to a filling station run by L. M. and Jim. Across the blacktop is the Double Cupp Diner, operated by Rhetta and Prudie Cupp. To look at it, you wouldn't know that this little stop on Highway 57 is where all the action is. But trust us, once the boys get that guitar and bass fiddle revved up, you won't want to be anywhere else. This special preview will feature songs from the show as well as a discussion with the cast, director, and musical director. Included with museum admission. Fiddle and Guitar Demonstration: Tori and Kati Huntley
Instrument Demonstration
Sisters Tori and Kati Huntley hail from Loretto, Tennessee. Tori, age sixteen, is the reigning Mississippi State Champion in both fiddle and mandolin for her age group. She is also the current West Tennessee Fiddle Champion. Kati, age thirteen, is the current Mississippi State Guitar Champion and the National Flat Top Guitar Champion for her age group. Tori and Kati are also talented dancers, and have won numerous prizes for buckdancing/clogging and squaredance. This program is offered as part of Nashville's "Week of the Young Child." All ages. Reading and Interview: Jewly Hight on Right by Her Roots: Americana Women and Their Songs
Special Program
In her newly released book, Right by Her Roots, author Jewly Hight examines the question of how cultural background has shaped the music of eight distinguished singer-songwriters. In this program, Hight will read from her book and bring to bear the same intellectual curiosity when she interviews singer-songwriter Sarah Siskind. Siskind is a second-generation musician whose parents took her to traditional music festivals before she became a performer herself. Hight will sign books in the Museum Store beginning at 12:15 p.m., following Siskind's performance. Included with museum admission. Free to museum members.

Roy Harper is a singer and guitarist who performs traditional country music, preserving the work of Uncle Dave Macon, Sam and Kirk McGee, Riley Puckett, Jimmie Rodgers, and Arthur Smith. In 2003, Harper received a prestigious Tennessee Folklife Heritage Award. Mike Webb is a former Dobro student of the late Bashful Brother Oswald. He has performed or recorded with Wilma Lee Cooper & the Clinch Mountain Clan, Charlie Louvin, Buddy Jewell, the Tennessee Mafia Jug Band, Tanya Tucker, and others. Included with museum admission.
