Don Schlitz can sure tell a story. Known for his success as a country songwriter, Schlitz proved just as effective at creating dramatic narratives when discussing his career as part of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's quarterly Poets and Prophets series, which honors songwriters who have made a significant contribution to country music.

Jeff Taylor plays accordion with the Time Jumpers and has performed or recorded with Elvis Costello, Vince Gill, Grandpa Jones, Martina McBride, Ricky Skaggs, George Strait, The Chieftains, Jimmy Webb, and others. Andy Reiss will sit in on guitar. Reiss performs with the Time Jumpers and has performed or recorded with Linda Davis, Reba McEntire, B.J. Thomas, and others. Included with museum admission. A staple of syndicated television for more than twenty years, Hee Haw premiered on CBS in 1969 and quickly became one of the most popular shows on network television. Conceived as the country version of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, the show was originally broadcast as the summer replacement for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. The weekly program featured rural comedy led by co-hosts Roy Clark and Buck Owens and country music performances by cast members and special guests. This screening features appearances by Tammy Wynette and George Jones. Presented in support of the exhibit Tammy Wynette: First Lady of Country Music Presented by Great American Country Television Network. 40 minutes. Grammy Award-winning songwriter Craig Wiseman has supplied hits for Kenny Chesney ("The Good Stuff," "She's Got It All," "Summertime"), Tim McGraw ("Everywhere," "The Cowboy in Me," "Live Like You Were Dying," "Where the Green Grass Grows"), and Phil Vassar ("American Child," "Just Another Day in Paradise," "Love is a Beautiful Thing"). Some of his other chart-toppers include "Believe" (Brooks & Dunn); "Hillbilly Bone" (Blake Shelton); "If the Good Die Young" (Tracy Lawrence); "Love Me If You Can" (Toby Keith); and "Voices" (Chris Young). In the mid-1990s, George Jones and Tammy Wynette reunited to make an album and perform a series of concerts. Full Access: On Tour with George and Tammy includes concert performances and interviews with these two country icons. They discuss their long personal and musical relationship, and perform material from throughout their careers. Learn songwriting fundamentals, including the basics of song form, rhyme scheme and meter, and secrets behind the creative process. Veteran songwriters Jerry Vandiver and Tim Buppert will lead this workshop. Vandiver has taught songwriting classes and had songs recorded by Lonestar, Tim McGraw, and Phil Vassar. Buppert has written and recorded for Kevin Sharp, Yankee Grey, and Trisha Yearwood.  For ages 5 to 11. No reservations required. Free. Michael McLain is an adjunct instructor of music at Belmont University and director of the Belmont Bluegrass Ensemble. McLain hails from a strong familial musical tradition and performed as part of The McLain Family Band for twelve years. Ned Luberecki is the banjo player for Chris Jones & the Night Drivers and Larry Cordle & Lonesome Standard Time. Luberecki also tours occasionally with Tony Trischka and hosts SIRIUS Newgrass on Sirius Satellite Radio's bluegrass channel. Included with museum admission. Our Musical Petting Zoo travels to the Nashville Public Library's Hadley Park Branch. Bang a drum, play a dulcimer, and strum a mandolin! We offer budding musicians a chance to try new and familiar instruments. Instructors will be on site to offer guidance. At the beginning of the program a professional musician will demonstrate how to play some of the instruments. All ages. No reservations required.
