The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museums publishing activity falls into three main areas. First, in cooperation with major trade publishing houses, the Museum produces a variety of commercial titles such as the authoritative reference guide The Encyclopedia of Country Music, published by Oxford University Press. Second, in cooperation with Vanderbilt University Press, the Hall of Fame publishes in-depth historical and biographical studies, such as Heartaches by the Number: Country Music's 500 Greatest Songs and Singing in the Saddle: The History of the Singing Cowboy. Lastly, the Museum's own in-house magazine, the Journal of Country Music has been the leading serious periodical covering country music since its inception in 1971.
In a transformation worthy of Eliza Doolittle, Porter Wagoner- he of the wagon wheel rhinestone suits- officially "went disco" on this night in 1979. Appearing at Nashville's Exit/In nightclub, he performed dance mix renditions of old country standards while the colored lights went crazy. "Country is actually pretty close to disco or rock," he told a local reporter. "Hell, you can sing 'Y'All Come' to disco."
