Ninth Annual Artist-In-Residence
The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum proudly presents Connie Smith as our 2011 Artist-in-Residence. The Grand Ole Opry star will preside over three evenings of music in the Ford Theater—August 22, 29, and September 12—highlighting her art and work. Each evening will follow a different theme and feature special guests.
Since 1964, when her debut single, “Once a Day,” stayed at #1 for eight weeks, Smith has enjoyed a reputation as a singer’s singer. She is cited as a favorite by many, including George Jones, Junior Brown, and Dolly Parton, who said, “There’s really only three real female singers in the world. Streisand, Ronstadt, and Connie Smith. The rest of us are only pretending.” Smith releases a new album, Long Line of Heartaches, on August 23. The record is her first collection of all-new material since 1998.
The Museum’s Artist-in-Residence series began in 2003 and gives legendary country artists an opportunity to create unique performances, original works, or other special artistic expressions. The annual series is part of a full slate of educational public programs presented by the Museum throughout the year, adding depth to the story of country music told in our galleries, and giving Museum visitors an opportunity to interact with the music’s history in unique and intimate ways.
